Handwriting Section

In order to investigate and unearth the mysteries of the crime like illegal possession of land or property, misappropriation of wealth, threatening someone or realization of ransom by anonymous letters, fraudulence, fleecing money from bank or any other financial institutions, forgeries as well as to bring the criminals under the purview of law and finally help out the courts to punish them are the core responsibilities of Handwriting/ Document Analysis Section of Criminal Investigation Department (CID). It provides expert opinions by restoring chemically or physically erased documents and indentations, detects any sort of addition or segregation in the documents, ascertains the genuineness of documents having special security features, compares two or more seal impressions to detect their genuineness, recognizes genuine and forged signature or writing and deciphers obliterated signature or writing. In a year the section analyzes documents of 1,300 to 1,500 cases containing 58,000 to 60,000 exhibits on an average.
